Take a chance on your art

Every artist, musician, writer, creator was inspired as some point by someone else. Did you ever stop to think that sometimes the "pros" are inspired by the "amateurs"

When designing the new title logo for the new season of Doctor Who, the producers at the BBC came across a fan-made title sequence they like so much they based theirs on that one.

Compare it to the one in use and you'll see very little was changed.

So if you've got a creative impulse, go online and show your work! People might hate it, they might ignore it, or they might love it!

Minecraft : Mutliverse

The ever-changing landscape of what is Minecraft is, in and of itself a model of the theory of the multiverse. The PC version has a seemingly unending supply of mods and skins to change the world in any number of ways from a minor change to tweak the inventory screen, to a vast overhaul enabling totally new crafting and gameplay.

It is fun looking for changes that allow the addition of your favorite things into your Minecraft world. Want Pokémon? They’re there. Looking for Super Mario? He’s there, too. Just want to simply change your avatar to look like Link from Zelda? You can do it . . . in fact I did.

The greatest thing, in my opinion, is that this has been pulled over – to a limited extent- to the console versions. I can get on my Xbox 360 and, for a nominal fee; I can combine my Minecraft world with Mass Effect, or Skyrim. The “Mashups” as they’re called, change the textures of the blocks to simulate the esthetics of the other games. Also, included are prebuilt images from them. This allows for an immersion into mashed up “alternate reality crafts” that you can let your imagination run wild in. Included with the mashups are sets of skins to make the experience more complete. Why build a Mass Effect world without the ability to run around as Shepard? These skins extend to simple sets that are released periodically, including: Marvel properties like The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy and Spiderman; simple villagers, cooks, kings; and various random games from the Xbox Arcade and more.

The excitement of squishing together your favorite things with your favorite game is difficult to beat, especially when Dr. Who skins were released late in September, and if it can be beaten, hey – all the more fun for me.

Fan Tees

I work in a school, and between classes, I am tasked with hall monitoring outside my room. It can sometimes be challenging depending on the day. Between the cursing, inappropriate wardrobe, yelling, running, the occasional tussle or two, and the couples that can be seen milling about, it can be difficult to get through the 5 minutes unscathed.

The highlight, though, is when I see the fan-boy or fan-girl in the crowd. A random Doctor Who shirt or a Deadpool hoodie makes me smile. Even with all the issues on the dark side of student interactions, it does me good to see that fandoms are that that support the same interests I have. It is nice to see fans of both the dark side and the Jedi co-mingling.

The best part of these observations is when I can see the odd cross, or scriptural reference on a shirt. I can smile on the inside as well as the out when I see these members of the fandom of Christ.

Bojac the Centaur and Bojack Horseman! OH NO!!!

Today I'm going to address a sort of "elephant in the room" concerning our Wii U game project, Of Mages & Pages.  Previously we teased a new character named Bojac the Centaur.  As many of you may be aware, Netflix recently released a new series, Bojack Horseman.  The irony is not lost on us. 

This is obviously just one of those "morphic field" type of things Captain Jack Harkness mentioned in Torchwood: Miracle Day.  Two completely unrelated projects arrived at a similar idea completely independent of one another.  I don't know how long Bojack Horseman took to come to fruition and it doesn't really matter.  I originally came up with the name Boajc for a character in a Midieville script I wrote back in 2008.

However, in light of the new show and to hopefully save us from any possible legal issues later on, we are going to be changing the name of our centaur character to something else.  What that name will be, we're not sure of as yet, but we will let you know once we've decided.  It's just too similar to risk it and honestly, it's not that big of a deal.  We at 3twins harbor no ill will towards Bojack Horseman, nor anyone involved with that show.  These things happen.  This isn't the first time we've changed something for similar reasons, and it probably won't be the last.

Doctor Who Legacy

Today I wanted to share about my favorite free to play phone/tablet game, Doctor Who Legacy.  When I was first introduced to Doctor Who Legacy, I thought it was going to be like all other gem matching games, but this one puts a fun twist by integrating RPG elements as well as fun collectables.
